If you have a little time before the show you can also view the free exhibit of small format tapestries--Pacific Portals--at the Long Beach Public Library, which is just 3 blocks from the Convention Center, at 101 Pacific Avenue. Weaver Nicki Blair told me about this show which will run until August 30th and features 150 tapestry artists from 12 countries. You can catch the show today and tomorrow from 10 to 5, but it is closed on Sunday.
I enjoyed meeting some of you yesterday at the Orange County Fair, where I represented my own North Cities Quilt Guild at our booth in the Home Arts Building number 16. We were almost adjacent to the booth for the Beach Cities Quilt Guild. They, like us, enjoyed introducing our love of quilting and our various philanthropy projects--quilts for Veterans and Christmas stockings for needy children for the Crittendon Home. We have agreed to double our donation from last year to a goal of 1000 stockings! If you are not a member of a guild, I urge you to find a local quilt guild and visit a meeting--you will find a wonderful world of fun and friendship just waiting for you! And also, the satisfaction of sharing yourself through philanthropy (yes, beginners too!) is truly good for your spirit!
